.Friday 7/5
Good Morning
Today is a holiday, the last day of the week. The day of remaining at home for security reasons, ha, ha, ha. I want to write today, the good news report. We've become bored of bad news, and want a break.
First of all, the weather is beautiful outside, and the sound of birds increases its beauty. But the sound of the electricity generator makes it ugly. My apologies, the electricity flow is very bad these days, but this news has no relation to the report today, because we agreed to only be happy today.
---------
The siege has been lifted off Faluja. The families have returned to their homes - the ones that were not demolished. But those, whose homes were demolished - we will talk about them in an upcoming sad report.
The situation in Najaf is anxious. We expect it to explode at any time - but we wish that there will be those who think a thousand times before they put pressure on any trigger. Americans, or Iraqis.
Curses.
I can't think clearly. Troubling news always is always on the surface, and we can't ignore it.
---------
Ok, I will try again from anew. We did an interview with BBC radio. An American mother, she has a son in the US Army, who returned home. Thank God! This is happy news, that he returned safely. We spoke on the phone to each other, and the correspondant spoke to us, asking us questions.
-----
So we each answered the questions, each one according to her opinions. The beautiful thing in this, is that our answers did not agree, but they were close. We are mothers, and we hate wars. And we want peace for our families, and for our countries. The program will be broadcast on mothers day in America - I mean, May 9. I hope it's a happy day for all mothers in America and the world - that families gather. That nobody is absent, participating in a war or something similar. And that peace surrounds the whole world
------
I was searching in a college in Baghdad for English language courses. They told me there is a British college, but it is close to the Green area. I mean, the center for the Coaltion forces. I turned down the idea, because it will be a class punctuated by missiles falling, aimed by anonymous people at our heads, during the course. Ha, ha, ha. It's not an encouraging thought and before a few days, a new friend of mine came, an engineer. I met her through my sister. She told me that she made a new Iraqi organization for professional women. Wow. I liked the idea and respected her. I said, "Thank God, this is something good, quite away from missiles and explosions."

She said, "If you want, give me your photo and ID card, and I will make you a member of the organization."

I told her, "Listen, I want something beneficial. My suitcase is filled with ID cards, I don't want more. I want something benificial."

She said, "We have membership in a new college, that gives English language classes, given by Americans. The owners of the college are Americans - a man, and his wife is an American Muslim. Many women are members -- do you want to be a member?"

Oh my God. For months I have been searching for this.
-------
In the afternon, I had spent a long time searching and asking in the same area that my friend described. But nobody could tell me where the college was. I was about to despair. But I returned and parked my car in front of where I work, and hired a taxi. I told him, "Let's ask slowly until we find the place."

It was a tiring trip. But I reached it, and smiled. No I didn't smile. I was going to fly with joy. There were Iraqi guards sitting in front of the house to search bags. In the reception, there was a young, polite Iraqi, and gave me the program. And an exam, to evaluate levels.

I began to write. Then I told him, "These are long questions, will I answer all of them?"

He said, "That's what you are supposed to do."

And I wrote and wrote. I was the only student. I told him that I will be late. The driver is outside. Can we summarize this?

He smiled and said, good, wait, I'll call the teacher. He returned after a while with a skinny man, partly bald, colored eyes and a smiling, friendly face. He greeted me in English, and I replied, and introduced myself. I told him that I wanted to strengthen my English. I don't want a TOFEL certificate or anything like that. I'm an Engineer and work in a family business.

He smiled and took the exam paper and wrote his comments, and said, "Good, your English is good, come tomorrow to attend classes with the rest of the students, we'll call to tell you the time."

The next day I attended the first class. I really enjoyed it. But we spoke amongst ourselves in Arabic to understand some of the more mysterious aspects - and then return to talk in English. The teacher was staring at us and complaining. But she is an easy going child from Texas, a new graduate.

I see her as a child because she may be younger than Raed, my son.

I really liked the first class. It's a discussion class. We talked about politics and finally, news. About our daily lives. Our families. Our degrees.

i find it a lovely, shining step. The American teachers, smiling, easy going. The Iraqi students, happy. A lovely meeting. A meeting between two cultures. Between two worlds. We are learning from each other, and talk about our lives, our traditions, and laugh. There aren't many big differences.

There aren't those differences that have to be answered by hatred and wars.

We gave them photographs of ourselves to make ID cards for the college. We hung them on our shirts, to help us in the future to enter easily. We paid fees that were almost symbolic. When we departed we said goodbye to all the college staff, men and women. We were all happy with this meeting. We agreed on a time for the next class
we are waiting to meet again.
-------
Yesterday a friend sent me a letter. About a young Iraqi girl, who works as a doctor in one of Baghdad's hospitals. An american soldier, working with his unit. He entered the hospital, or nearby. In the beginning of the war, to protect hospitals against attacks. They got to know each other, working the same daily hours. They used to talk about their lives and maybe about their families and how they were raised.
-----
They decided to get married. The details are on the website. But I remained thinking about this and smiling. When the soldier stood in front of the judge, to be become a Muslim. To marry an Iraqi Muslim girl. He has to say: There is no God but God, and Mohammad is the prophet of God.

I read this in English, and I realised something I had not noticed before when I say it in Arabic. The recognition of God being One, and that Mohammad is his prophet. That God is one, that prophets are many. Mohammad is not the only prophet. Yes, Mohammad had the last message. He didn't deny those who became before him. Rather, he came to complete what had come before him. Abraham, Yaqoub and Joseph, Moses and Jesus. They are the prophets of one God. And we are all the children of one God.
-------
The story is on this website, and I think it deserves to be a cinematic film one day. When peace prevails in the world, and when the voices of peace rise, and silence the sounds of missiles and rockets.

good morning...
this is a typical letter from an American reader..
I can see the beautiful human feelings..even we don`t know each other..
but , I want you to read the other one...
..it`s from the post of an Iraqi blogger..
she lived in USA...
where is her Iraqi??
I feel sad and shameful...
she had never , ever , been Iraqi .
faiza
*******

Dear Faiza -
I am adding my voice to the many you have already heard from, hoping that you are inundated with responses as outraged as mine.
My sister & I were talking about Abu Ghraib and agreeing that we now (I should say now more than ever) walk around with our faces burning with shame. As Americans we should not expect forgiveness right now - that is a luxury we do not deserve . Nor is it so damned important for us to restore our "good name" so we can feel the nationalistic pride that's always being drilled into us here. Nor dare to hope the Iraqi people don't think we're all that bad.
Actions speak louder than words.
I want to see every speck of evil dragged out and aired in the light of day. We need to be forced to see it. I don't have much taste for it - but I have even less for all the lies. Maybe such strong medicine will cure some of the rampant poisonous patriotism abounding in this country.
I am angry about the sanctions, the attack & invasion of Iraq & resulting loss of lives (all of them), the hypocrisy of allowing our media to showing Iraqi soldiers surrendering or dead, then censuring Aljazeera for showing dead American soldiers & Iraqi civilians, the invaders' (oh, coalition forces) lack of preparation for securing the museum from looters (which, by the way, we have plenty of here), the way in which the capture of Saddam was shown, and all the self-serving crimes & needless destruction that has been taking place since the war began.
Faiza, you speak a "group of mysterious men approved by the USA & mistrusted by Iraqis" - that you don't them to draw your country's future. Very wise of you. I don't want them in my country either - they've made a mess of things. Let's hope we can get rid of them.
I wish to thank you for your work, & wish you peace as well.
Warm Regards
Lee

and this is from the post of Iraqi blogger...

.........
So, why do Arabs hate Americans? They hate you for what you stand for. They hate you because they wish they were you. They hate you because they don't have your choices. They hate you because of your democracy and how well it works.
We've all seen your democracy in action this week. Give me one Arab country where its president apologizes for his army's mistakes. Give me one Arab country were army members could be punished for their brutal acts.

I hope I answered your question.

Thursday 5/6

Good morning….
Baghdad is quite. There was less traffic since the publishing of the torture
photos from Abu Gharib. It feels like the whole city sank into sadness and
disbelief. People used to talk about such incidents but as they had no
proof, it was nothing but gossip. Then the pictures were published and it
turned into a fact.
****************************
I want to stop for a moment at the incident of killing 4 Americans at
Falluja.
Now we know that they weren't civilian contractors. They were working for a
private security firm; a firm that trains men to perform assassinations and
engage in fighting and similar actions.
I remember now a comment made by my neighbor that I didn't believe at the
time. Now it surfaces into my brain again. After the Falluja incident I
called her and we talked about different things. She works for the ministry
of health and I know that those working at government offices know some
secrets the regular citizen finds about much later. I told her how amazed I
was and that I refuse such acts of killing and burning people in the
streets. She said: Don't be amazed Um-Raed, they were involved in torturing
and mistreating Iraqis in prisons.
I said: what prisons?
She said: You didn't hear about it?
I told her I didn't and then changed the subject because I didn't believe
her.
************************
Now we know that they found out about the torture as early as January 2004.
That's 4 months ago.
Iraqis and Americans knew nothing about it except for a small minority who
knew about it and didn't say a word.
What a scandal…
That minority who knew about it have every right to hide it. It hurts and
destroys Iraqis' feelings. It tears their pride apart. It's humiliating and
makes them hate the occupation even more.
It was a shock to the American people. They didn't believe that their
government would do such a thing.
That's mainly because they believe totally in their government, its honesty,
Right and justice in the US and abroad.
Then the truth was out.
*****************************
Iraqis say that the women arrested and tortured at Abu Gharib weren't
accused with committing any crime. They are sisters and wives of Iraqi men
suspected to have connections with the resistance.
That's just another slap on our faces.
What will they start the interrogation with?
They raid houses, show no respect to the residents, take women if men
weren't available and then they mistreat and humiliate them….
Where do I start?
Where are the American values the President Bush mentioned: civilization,
mercy and justice?
I ask this once again: who gave them the orders?
And who followed those orders?
What did they tell the American soldiers going to Iraq?
You go there and mow the lawn…Raid their houses and mistreat their men and
women…We'll cover you up and no one will find about it…?
Maybe Iraqis are lucky because this is elections year and there are some
Bush opponents who are willing to unveil the bush administration scandals.
It's a sign from God that he's with the oppressed Iraqis.
God revealed the truth and the exposed the liars. Now they are confused; how
will they explain, how will they apologize?
They sent notes to the tortures….. Oh thank you! You crushed them with such
harsh punishment and scared the hell out of any other torturer.
******************************
President Bush is on TV speaking so softly and calmly.
That's the first time we see him speaking in a decent soft manner.
We are used to watching him threatening, anger evident in his eyes, his
hands gesturing doom and gloom…
Who will believe him?
Will his speeches solve all our problems?
Shall we believe him, smile and forgive?
We have a long list of mistreatment of Iraqis by occupation forces.
We Iraqis now aren't in trouble now.
The American administration is in trouble.
It's supposed to prove that human rights, mercy and justice it has been
touting are for real.
It's supposed to build trust on the Iraqi and the American side by actions
not words.
It's been over a year now and the mistakes were numerous.
It's not just about some foolish soldiers. No!
This is about a foolish leadership who can't make plans and perform them in
a mature rational way.
***********************
We Iraqis don't hate the American people.
It is quiet the opposite.
We now feel that we are like them, victims of the misjudgments of this
administration.
But the difference is that this administration needs the approval of the
American people because they finance the war.
Out of the American people come the money, Men and women needed for this
war.
If the people there got angry this would mean the end of the support and the
end of this war.
The president will of course appear on TV to apologize. Not out of respect
for the Iraqi people but to sooth the feelings of the Americans, who were
shocked, ashamed and sad because of the atrocities committed in their names.
But no one cares about the Iraqis, their feelings or their pains.
For over a year we have been talking and yelling about mistreatment and no
one cared enough to listen, believe or apologize.
Now that the pictures were published it became a case that can't be just
simply ignored.
The Americans stopped to think: what went wrong?
Yes we need people to stop and think: what went wrong?
Where are we heading?
We wish that the mistakes are corrected. And we all head towards a better
path, a path where the Iraqi are helped to rebuild their country starting
from rebuilding the destroyed streets filled with garbage, to rebuilding the
souls….
**************************
We want peace. We want stability. We want security.
We want that for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren.
We want to build a beautiful free country, a bright progressive model, a
country that doesn't attack its neighbors, a country that doesn't lose its
characteristics, an Arab Muslim homeland believing in justice, mercy and
peace…
No one would draw its future but us…
No group of mysterious men approved by the USA and mistrusted by the Iraqis
will take over its leadership but an Iraqi leadership out of the people; it
would love them, defend them and guard their dignity….
The old flag represents all that.
Who wants to tarnish our beloved symbols?
The old flag was there before Saddam and there is no association between the
two of them.
The old flag tells the story of our ancestors and their beautiful values we
are proud of.
"White are our good deeds…..Black are our battles….Green are the oases where
we spend the spring…..Red are our sharp swords"
That was all in the flag.
White, green, black and red…. (T. note: It's to be noted that the Jordanian,
Palestinian, Kuwaiti flags are made of the same 4 colors, while the
Egyptian, Yemeni, Syrian flags are made of 3 of them. Almost in any Arab
flag one or more of those colors are present)
Who has the courage to erase those words so special to us and replace them
with what suits him….An Iraqi living abroad for decades…What's Iraqi left in
him?
It's such a weird time.
You can't differentiate between your friend and your enemy anymore.
Your enemy comes from within…..
That's the worst thing for Iraqis…
Their enemy emerges out of them, starting form Saddam Hussien.
You may add whoever neo-Saddam you like to the list.
They are nothing but neo-Saddams with different names and faces.

Good morning.
It's a little cloudy this morning. I hear explosions since the morning, but I don't know where they are happening. I expect them to increase after the publishing of the pictures of the Iraqi prisoners.
Americans apologize; they say those are nothing but a small bad minority.
Iraqis are angry and they wonder: why didn't you believe us when we said that the people who committed the mutilation in Falluja are a small bad minority. You filled your media with poisonous comments and you said: "that's just how Iraqis are" and then you got a green light from your people to attack Falluja and kill hundreds of men, women and children.
You wrecked down houses, markets, schools and mosques. You spread devastation and tyranny and you still do that?. Why???
Who planted the culture of hatred and not believing the other but you???
Who planted the culture of revenge, murder and destruction but you???
Now you want the Iraqi to smile and comprehend your decency and kindness???
How can he comprehend after you tarnished his image???
You are the ones who said that Iraqis use their own women and children as human shields, to explain why there were many casualties among women and children.
All the lies you planted you will reap. All the spite you spread will blow up in your face.
I always say that the magic turns up against the magician.
This is exactly what happened.

*******************************
Your casualties are human beings who have names, memories, families and friends.
Our casualties have no names, no faces and no memories.
That's the poison you publish day and night.
We have kids who were murdered so young in their age of roses.
We have kids who are the victims of cluster bombs [we will publish photos about them on the site].
We have kids who became orphans after losing both their parents.
We have women who lost their partners and became widows and their children became orphans.
We have houses that house non-stop crying and prayers against Saddam and Bush and this damn war they have nothing to do with.
We have people who were subject of injustice and humiliation and their houses were raided.
But the media pictures the American as the only human out there and the rest are barbarians. Didn't you call us that after the Falluja incident?
Now God in the highest is smiling and asking: Who are the barbarians now??
A verse in the Holy Quran orders us: " O you who believe! Let not (one) people laugh at (another) people perchance they may be better than they, nor let women (laugh) at (other) women, perchance they may be better than they"
The holy books were revealed to educate people and to bring them closer together, not to enforce arrogance and injustice.

*****************************

When I used to live in Amman my boys were young, and I needed someone to help me raising them. I hired a Sri-Lankan maid like most people there do.
When she arrived my boys gathered around her. She sat in her room having lunch. The boys were spying on her and say in childish amazement: mama, she is eating. Mama, she doesn't know how to use the spoon.
I laughed and said: yes, she is poor and from a poor country. She has a family and children and had to leave them to come and serve you because she wants to send them her salary so they could live a good life like all other people.
I cried all night in the first days after her arrival. I felt guilty. My boys have 2 mothers now while her kids have no mother now. How will they sleep? How will they spend their nights? Crying and missing her?
My neighbor laughed at me and said: don't worry about that?.They are poor,
they are not like us. Not like our families or children.
I wished I could punch her in the face and shut her up.
Is this arrogance and despising other people a culture Man acquired or is it a hereditary thing?
I think it's the latter. But the poisonous and stupid media make people know each other less and less. It separates them instead of bringing them together. It builds barriers instead of bridges. Why???
That's because the people controlling it are evil; benefiting from spreading spite and wars declaration. I wish I can watch a channel, a magazine or a popular newspaper speaking the language of love, spreading peace and telling us good news.
Where is it???
Who would supervise it?
And who would care for listening to it?
Man is almost dying with hatred?.. This is the age of hatred, contempt, xenophobia, enjoying revenge, tarnishing images, Destruction and squashing the other.

****************************************
Man built his modern and ancient civilizations by love and peace.
Wars left nothing but devastation, death, losses for the whole humanity.
Wars weren't waged by dignified men for the goodwill of humanity.
No.This is a truth that can't be refuted.
Who is more unjust than the one who killed and shed blood?
And they think what they are doing is good.
The Quran describes them in a verse:" And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers. Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive."

****************************************
When will wars stop?
When the criminals can't find more people to listen to them, believe in what they say, supply them with money and men. Men are the fuel that the mill needs to keep on working.
When those evil people can't find more people to believe in what they say, to cheer them, be proud of what they do with their black dirty hearts full of contempt.
Let them all go to hell.
I pray that God saves the innocent souls that have nothing to do with this.
And let peace be on earth.
