Iraq , in need of National Salvation Front....

Monday, August 24, 2009

Peace be upon you…
The observer who follows the daily news in Iraq sees how events accelerate in violent, bloody directions, before the parliamentary and presidential elections early next year…
a follower of the news stumbles between hope and frustration, between light and darkness, among tens of confusing questions that needs a quiet session to collect facts on the ground, to analyze them then to come out with realistic, logical results, to comprehend what is happening, and to answer questions like- why? When? and How?
Questions circle around in my mind: why all this violence and bloodshed? When will all this end? How can we save Iraq?
**************************************
Matters are moving in an accelerating violent direction, as political pacts among the ruling Parties in power stumble. Those political pacts have been moving in a very slow and stumbling manner for months, perhaps, while the streets of Baghdad explode with trapped cars and blood is shed as a reaction on the ground, expressing the violent political conflict among these Parties, in a dialogue language that became adopted in the after-the-occupation-Iraq.
America said it has removed the tyrannical, comprehensive regime in Iraq, and brought a democratic, multiple system- and this is the experiment of the multiple system in the new Iraq.
And when some of the writers of our new government write an article, they accuse the neighboring Arab states of being jealous and spiteful because their regimes are old and tattered, while ours is a modern, civilized, multiple…
By God I don’t know what to say- are these people fools, blind, or ignorant? With what are they boasting, and bragging?
****************************************
Last week’s explosions were a strong message addressed to AL-Maliky’s government, and it is clear it was from his allies, not from strangers; as it is not possible to pass so many check-points by trucks loaded with many tons of explosives without a collusion with the security leaderships responsible for those check-points. This also shows how frail and infiltrated our security ministries are- the Defense and Interior Ministries, for they are divided among sectarian militias and death gangs whose job is aimed against the innocent Iraqi civilians instead of protecting them…
During the past weeks, when the Iraqi Prime Minster and the General Leader of the Armed Forces, decided to remove the concrete anti-blast walls from the streets of Baghdad, he knew Baghdad was safe from terrorism; he wanted to send a message to the Iraqis that he was sure of his security systems and their performance level after the occupation forces pull out from cities, and perhaps also it was an election publicity for him personally…
but his allies didn’t like these signals, as he is in a constant state of conflict with the coalition that contains the Supreme Islamic Council headed by Al-Hakeem, including Al-Sader Bloc, Al-Fathealh , Al-Daiwaa party ,and other sectarian groups that donned the Shia’ats guise but failed to present any real services to the Iraqi people on the ground, and so, with the elections drawing near, this coalition broke up and disintegrated, under the pressure of the street and its refusal of these sectarian coalitions. First of all- Al-Fathealh Party withdrew and formed another front… Al-Sader Bloc hesitated, withdrew then went back again, and in my view this is political opportunism; because they know they are empty-handed without this sectarian coalition, they went back to the Coalition to prove, as other Parties have proven, that their loyalty is for the Parties and their interests, not to Iraq and its interests… this ruination spread, and corruption, because of the loyalty to the Party, the covering of all faults and refusing to admit them, in stead of giving loyalty to Iraq and its people, and defending their interests. That is a main reason to the calamities in which Iraq is living now….

****************************************
AL-Maliky tried to withdraw his Party from the Coalition; Al-Da’awa Party, then started the negotiations and the political conflicts between the Coalition members, which appears through the statements by Parliament members from this bloc or that Party; aggressive statements, accusing every other faction of inadequacy, failure, and treason- sometimes… each one wants to degrade the other in front of the Iraqi public view… but it seems that these pressures weren’t enough for AL-Maliky to return back under the canopy of the Shia’at sectarian Coalition, so these bombings were a strong threatening message to him; that we can topple down your government and show it off as a weak entity like a pile of straw; we can ruin your credibility to build a state of law and constitution; these are your security forces- weak, frail, and infiltrated; the plan to remove the concrete blast walls will prove to be a failure. And actually- it was proven a failure; it was proven that the enemy in Iraq is one of our own, even if the trapped trucks came from beyond the boarders, but there are tails to the heads of terrorism, nesting in Baghdad, and holding everything with strong, blood-stained talons…
***************************************
And what is the role of the occupation forces here? The role of a smiling onlooker; one who withdrew himself from the arena, and authorized someone else to accomplish his dirty task for him…
************************************
Anyone who reads an American newspaper online, who reads the headlines and the stories about Iraq, can see how stories are being related in a way so very different from reality… for example: the story about the resignation of the head of the Iraqi Intelligence Beaurue Mohammad Al-Shahwani after the Baghdad bombings; as he presented reports and evidence proving Iran’s and the Iran-supporting Parties in the Iraqi government’s involvement in the bombings of last Wednesday, the government refused to listen to him and presented another story to the Iraqi public, a made-up story- of course, something that angered him so he submitted his resignation and left Iraq (Al-Zaman Iraqi newspaper, Aug. 23rd, 2009).
While the same news report appeared in the Washington Post (in Aug. 23rd, 2009) saying that the head of the Iraqi Intelligence was referred to pension before the Wednesday bombings because of his old age, that this was the retiring age, and because of the laws he shouldn’t have remained in position more than 3 years, but he has been in position for 6 years…
I mean- what are the similarities between the two stories? Nothing, of course.
This is but a small sample of the lies published by the American newspapers, which are not honest in relating the news about what is happening in Iraq since 2003 until now…
***************************************
We go back to the questions once more: why would AL-Maliky submitt to the pressures of these sectarian, criminal Parties without exposing them to the Iraqis? Why wouldn’t the occupation forces support Al-Maliky if they see him as the man of the hour, the man who enforced the idea of “the State of Law and Constitution” in Iraq? Why would the occupation forces keep silent while knowing exactly what is going on in Iraq? Rather- why would they lie and relate different stories about Iraq in the international media?
Many questions; difficult and complicated, and surely to have many answers, not just one…
Perhaps Al-Maliky cannot ignore the Iranian influence in Iraq, perhaps the occupation accepts these bloody, aggressive Parties because they will be the instrument to divide Iraq; these Parties meet with Iran and the occupation in one clear point: ripping Iraq off, dividing it into smaller, sectarian states… while Al-Maliki’s logo is- one Iraq, non-sectarian, and a strong central government…
Now, the notions became clear for every side, and it will be clear who will get the occupation’s help, and who will remain as the weak and exposed side in the arena… of course the sectarian speech is the speech needed in Iraq now, something the occupation wants and supports strongly; our news in the American newspapers and media are all under sectarian titles: Nori AL-Maliky- the Shia’at Prime Minster; or, this or that- the Sunnie Minister; today 4 Shia’ats and 5 Sunnies were killed; a Sunnie town called (…) , ( …) kilometers from Baghdad; … and so on…
There, in the western media, there is no such thing as “an Iraqi”; there, we’re known by different faces, different names, and different stories… and the poor American citizen doesn’t know what’s happening over there? His government says- we withdrew our forces from the cities but the Iraqis are still fighting and quarreling, and we must remain to protect them. Now, the occupation forces are awaiting the change of the equation on the ground, when these sectarian Parties who want to divide Iraq seize the power, then the occupation will withdraw from Iraq, for then the mission would be truly accomplished; Iraq would be divided and held in the hands of the powers America truly wants…
and if that equation will not be accomplished in the next elections, the country will remain in a state of fighting and violence until America gets what America wants: I mean- strengthening the dividing-pro-Parties’ grip on power…
Now, the Kurdish Parties in the north are holding the North Region’s government, bragging of being separatists, that they want to seize parts of Mousel and Karkook, for wherever there is oil, there is greed.
Their speech to the Kurdish people there is: let us struggle together to annex Karkook and parts of Mousel to our state- the state of Kurdstan. There is no Iraqi national address there, only an ethnic address, obsessed with wars, fighting, and violence…
And it seems, according to the occupation’s plans, that Baghdad must also be dominated by a sectarian government obsessed with the sectarian speech and always ready to fight the enemies…
And who are the enemies?
For the Kurds, the Arabs are the enemies…
For the Shia’ats, the Sunnies are the enemies…
And this is the future in the after- the- occupation- Iraq… the Iraq of freedom, democracy, and plurality…..
***************************************
Iraq now resembles Lebanon in its long war of 15 years… regional states and international powers put their fingers into the country, holding the lines; twisted lines, fighting to gain military power and to control the wealth…
***************************************
And hope remains…that a national Iraqi front would rise; one that comprehends its responsibility in saving Iraq from the fate the occupation is planning, along with these gangs, and militias fighting over power…
A national front to save Iraq from all this…
A national front that puts Iraq first, and last, and not the loyalty to Parties or to implementing a regional or international agenda…
The picture is so dark in Iraq now…
***************************************
When will the sun rise? No one knows… As long as the occupation remains in Iraq, there is no real hope of salvation….
Even if the elections take place, under a government that lies to its people, how can we guarantee fair and honest results?
A month ago, I supported the elections, but now, after the last bombings, the picture became clearer, and it is uglier than I used to imagine ...
