Good evening.…
I was stunned, and saddened by the history of Jamal Abdul Nasser in Egypt, after the 1952 revolution against the Monarchy, and the British occupation…
At that time, I was not even borne yet, and when I grew up a little, I used to hear that Abdul Nasser is the legendary hero of the Arabs, whom they were waiting for…
And when the 1967 war occurred, I did not understand exactly what happened, but I understood it was painful and frustrating for my father, who used to listen to the news, and all those who were sitting with him, of relatives and elderly friends…
Abdul Nasser died when I was in intermediate school, and I remember that all schools stopped teaching, and perhaps the state offices stopped working, considering it a sad day for the nation…
And now, after more than 30 years of his death, it occurred to me by chance to know more about him; his personality, his style in leadership, how did he treat his fellow officers, and how did he treat his opponents, how did that war in 1967 with Israel happen, and what were the circumstances that led to defeat?
And I was stunned, as if someone slapped me on my face….
I read different books, representing the viewpoints of his opponents, his followers, or his victims…
He was a dictator, with all the meanings of this word!
He eliminated or discharged his fellow officers who joined him in the revolution; he used to bring close those who thought like him, or supported him, and marginalized or dismiss who criticized him…
He executed some of the opposition men, and threw a lot of them in the prison cells under torture.
He established a unity state with Syria, under the condition of calling off all political activities of the other Parties…
He entangled his army in the Yemen independence war, and thus overtaxed the army and the Egyptian economy, uselessly…
He played on different lines between America and Russia; for he wanted weapons and support, but both eluded him, and he had a lot of pressure from both sides, so the country did not know a state of strength or political settlement under such an indecisive condition between two major poles…
And that was one of the most important reasons for the June 1967 defeat with Israel…
He thought that America will not interfere to support Israel, and that Russia will stand by him…
There was a mistake in reading the reality….
And the result was: Russia stood aside and watched the defeat, and blackmailed Egypt to open her lands for Russian bases, or some facilities for the crossing of the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean, in exchange of providing Egypt with Russian weapons…
And America participated, in a direct or hidden way, in supporting Israel and strengthening her, otherwise how could a small, young state have won over the armies of three Arab countries, or more?
There is America, my dear, hiding behind the scene…
Anyway; Israel occupied what was left of Palestine, then sucked Siena'a from Egypt, the Golan from Syria, and the West Bank from Jordan…
By GOD, it is a shameful history, that of our Arabic governments…
I do not know whether it is stupidity, mismanagement, or the recklessness about the nation's fate…
And thus, the Palestinian issue entered a dark tunnel, for which the right solution is not found until this day…
And in Egypt, during the war, the destruction befell the Egyptian Air Force, for it was all bombed on the airport ground since 8 A.M, how did this happen?
Is there a country in the world, which was preparing for war, which would leave its warplanes in the open, a wing touching a wing, to become an easy target for the enemy's bombardment? And how would the Egyptian Army fight without an air cover?
This means that the battle was decided from the first half hour, but the "Arab voice" radio from Cairo kept broadcasting, saying- we shot down 70 enemy planes, we destroyed them, we wrecked them, and the Egyptian and Arabic people were all tricked, applauding, and hoping for victory…
Are these the behaviors of a wise leadership? Or the behaviors of a bunch of conceited, lying fools?
Isn't that the same mentality of Saddam Hussein, when he challenged America, making her occupy Iraq and rip it apart, while he released fiery statements addressed at the miserable Iraqis themselves: Fight them, fight the invaders?
Fight them with what?
With the rusty tanks that hasn't been serviced since 1990? Or with the old, extinct rifles?
And the honorable Bush and Blare spread the word that we have weapons of mass destruction, and the ability to bomb America and London within 45 minutes…
Ha,ha,ha… by GOD, the worst disasters can make a laugh…
And the people here died of panic, believing those great reports…
America and Britain watched Iraq by satellite day and night, and were convinced more than I am now, that Iraq was a miserable country, military broken, without any might, or means….
Meaning; poor Saddam was in a dilemma, uncertain, should he say: come on, people, we are broke, we have nothing. Or: yes, by God, we will destroy you…
But the war and its outcome said all the truth… it said that the weapons of mass destruction were just a lie, that there was no connection between Saddam, Al-Qaida, and the accursed 11 Sep. events….
Nevertheless, did anyone step forward from the Bush administration, and apologized to the Iraqis? Did they say they were ready to apologize, and pay the compensations for the destruction?
Of course not…
For the same policy goes on, by an arm and a leg, to destroy Iraq.
****************************
I didn't criticize the Arabic governments because I target them, no, this wasn't the point. But what I do wonder about is the system used to deceive the people, delude them, and scatter their dreams in the wind.
Yesterday I was reading a book that published an interview with Noam Chomsky, an American Jewish thinker, who is supposed to be my enemy, according to the Bush standards that he spreads against the Muslims…
But I was amazed, for I found the man nearer to my way of thinking, and that of a lot of Arabs, more than to the Jews in Israel, or to the Americans in America itself…
In his address, he re-evaluated the American history, with all the bitterness I used in evaluating the history of some of the Arabic governments in modern history…
And I found out that there is some "system" at work, there, too, in America, working day and night; that there are some clowns, jugglers, and ringleaders, like those who were around Abdul Nasser or Saddam Hussein, to glorify the president's personality, and cover up his mistakes and misdeeds…
Huh… the world is really a small village, the words and deeds in it are alike…
And that is the beautiful face of Globalization, not ripping apart people's identities, and removing their skins, by the Market Economy slaughter house, or by the Free International Trade, the Privatization, the trans-Continent Companies, or the International Bank Loans, and its conditions to break the economy of the countries that deal with it. That would be the dirty Globalization, a Globalization of thieves….
But there is a beautiful Globalization; the Globalization of the cultured, and their agreement to one, specific viewpoint to evaluate the world, and explain what goes on in it of disasters…
The Jewish American thinker Noam Chomsky agrees with a British writer, like Harold Pinter, who won the Nobel prize for Literature, and with any Arabic thinker, like Edward Sai'eed, (may God have mercy on his soul), or with any African, Latin American, or Indonesian thinkers… oh, dear GOD, they all issue the same speech, as if they sat to a round table, and agreed on a way to express what is happening in the world. This is Telepathy. This is the positive issue of something called – Globalization. Not the dirty wars, stealing people's wealth, or stealing hope from oppressed people, the dreams of independence, and the freedom to formulate the suitable National future.
*************************************
O.K, so, the American media always cry about President Kennedy and his genius. I believed that for a while, I thought he was the best of men, but Naom Tchomsky mentions how John Kennedy waged war against Cuba, and played the American National Security tune. In 1962 the situation got tense, there was the story of the Russian Rockets in Cuba, and how they would be fired any minute if America wouldn’t withdraw its threats; meaning- the world was on the edge of a nuclear war, then, Kennedy summoned the armies, and announced war on Vietnam…
But look what the official address say about President John Kennedy? That he is an ideal hero, like a god… faultless…
So, this means that this mentality, the mentality of domination, the love to control, and the recklessness with legal international Organizations, of inventing over exaggerated stories about the oncoming enemy, this same policy was there since the times of President Kennedy, and not just these days, at the time of Bush, but what is the difference?
The difference is that the world became like a small village, and people learned to open their eyes to learn the truth by other sources, aside from the announcements of their lying governments…
It means the people became less influenced by the propaganda released by governments to wash their brains, like Hitler, Mussolini, and the other racial Nazis used to do…
Well then; what is the difference between the Bush administration mentality, and that of Hitler? Isn’t it the same narrow, extremist mentality, a mentality hating the Other, deforming his image to justify eliminating him? This administration deforms Islam, making it a target, then gathers around her some Parties or religious coalitions, extremist as well, Christians or Jewish, who are also hateful, and narrow minded…
And even though a Christian writer like Edward Sai'eed, (may God have mercy on his soul), used to live in America, as a professor in one of New York’s Universities, and he could have used the fact of his being a Christian to run around, clap, adulate, and forge history, but he was an aware, hard, and clean intellectual; he kept defending the Arabic people, and Islam until the last days of his life, after the invasion of Iraq. He was a Christian from Jerusalem, but he saw with his own eyes the transparency of Islam, it pureness, and innocence from the charges against it, and he kept criticizing the aggressive, racial, extremist Bush government policies against Islam…
And here is Chomsky, the Jew, who surprised me with his way of analyzing modern American history, and the story of protecting the National Security, that is usually used to invade other countries, or topple governments and regimes, from Vietnam, to Chili, Nicaragua, El-Salvador, Grenada, Indonesia, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, to Iraq…
It’s a long list…
And now, on the way: Iran and Syria, by petty, silly justifications…
**********************************
What attracts my attention is the calamities committed by the governments of Presidents Regan and Carter, in the countries of South America, which were tried by a strong, and evil neighbor, at the same time, and of course, America always sends disciplinary campaigns to these countries, to change regimes and topple governments, under the pretext of protecting the National Security of the United States…
This protection starts from ‘reforming’ the near-by neighbors, like Cuba and Chili, on to far off neighbors, like Afghanistan and Iraq. (Are these miserables included in the neighborly category?).
In fact, all the world became neighbors with the Unite States in the Globalization era, so, everybody should be reformed….
So, President Regan’s picture in the American media is that of the savior angel, while he waged wars, destroyed countries, and tore people apart, exactly like what president Bush is doing now…
So, the Arabic people aren’t the only victims of a tricky media, and a lying system that beautifies death, and cover it with sugar, like the saying goes… meaning- a system that would cover the governmental– committed disasters, and show it as beautiful, wise conducts aiming at the people’s and state’s welfare, just like what happened in Iraq when Saddam Hussein entered Kuwait in 1990, and most Iraqis hit their heads and said: he is leading us to a new catastrophe, but the state TV, Radio and Newspapers put forward his pictures and said: long live Mr. President!
And now I would like to clarify an important point that has always been in my mind…
Our people are mindful; and if you sat down with any old man, taxi driver, or men drinking tea in the café, in any remote town or village of the Arab Homeland, you will be amazed at their awareness, and comprehension of what is going on exactly…
And the west thinks we are sleepy, backwards people…
While most of the western people are inattentive about what is going on around them, and what crimes their governments are committing against other nations…
I mean; were the British people completely aware of what Britain was doing, of the injustice against the colony’s people? Were they aware of the plundering of the wealth of these agricultural countries, like cotton and seeds from Egypt, and the oil of Iran and Iraq?
Were those people unaware, as Bertrand Russell said, when he described the people of the imperial countries? Are these people still asleep, or uncaring about what their governments are doing beyond their boarders?
We all see the movements of the people of Europe and America against the war on Iraq, but the war happened, in spite of everybody’s nose, and the voices of war opposition still rise high, but the American government, backed by the British government, are still justifying the war, and keep on implementing the plan.
And what is the plan?
To bring democracy and freedom to the Arabic people?
Thank you, we know it’s just a play to topple un-cooperative regimes, and bring cooperative regimes, just like Chili, Nicaragua, El-Salvador, and the others…
And the comedies that are happening in Iraq now are proof enough…
We are people oppressed by our governments, but we aren’t unaware or stupid people, ever.
The really unaware and tricked people are the western people, from America to Europe, to everyone who believes what is broadcasted by the lying, poisonous media, like those in George Orwell’s Novel: 1984, as people are brainwashed, and fearful at the same time, their souls are filled with illusionary fear and panic, until they believe and support the government in the decisions of wars and toppling regimes in the world, as their governments tell them that all this lands at the interests of the American and British people, and the other nations who joined this game, including the people in the George Orwell Novel…
************************************
And as Chomsky says, and as I always said: the oppressed people do not ask: what shall we do? They know the way to get free, and move along it, like the people of Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, and Afghanistan are doing now, for instance…
But the people who are governed by imperialistic countries, like the people of the United States, always ask: what shall we do?
And here shows the inability. And the question is: Why don’t they know the way?
Is it because the production companies dominated their minds, and drugged it by the culture of- eat, sleep, consume? Or because the media poisoned their minds, and washed them? Is it because the stories always reach them in a shallow, one-dimensional way, in a stereo-type; this is a Muslim; he is a terrorist, This is a dictator ruler; we will attack him and topple him, we shall give his people freedom, democracy, transparency, and…lab,…lab,…lab…..
Where is the error, and who will take the responsibility of what these governments are committing of sins?
I do not know, the answer is there, with them…
I pity the people of the United States, for I see that they are the ones who need a major force to come and remove that ‘system’ that is controlling them, to release the people’s freedom, so they could see the light, to see the truth of things, away from the Bush government’s filters, away from the major companies who join him in ruling the country, and take hold of everything, so they could be in their grasp…
***************************
As I read the history of our modern, failure governments, and it slapped me in the face, it emphasized the importance that this nation must read the past, and criticize it so they could master manufacturing the future; by changing these leaderships, and changing the intellectual and advertisement speech to another, more truthful, more transparent, and more realistic…
I also call upon the European people of imperialistic countries, like Britain and the United States; to re-read their history, for perhaps they will find too that the heroes of yesterday were nothing but criminals, their hands stained with the blood of other people, who were oppressed, wronged, and their wealth plundered…
The western people should re-read their history, to see where is the right, and where is the wrong? Where is the truth, and where is the lie? to remove mountains of accumulations that separated the west from the east… mountains that are being invested now by men like Bush and Blair, racists, and biased, to wage more wars, and create more hatrids and segregation, between the people of the world, and their own people…
And all this is being done under the slogan of Globalization … which is nothing but a lie, for the real Globalization is that which draws people near, not pull them apart, so we could discover the "Other" closely, and show affection to him, to fill the gap between cultures and civilizations, so Earth would become a planet prevailed by peace, justice, and security… instead of wars, darkness, and the culture of panic, marketed by Bush, his administration, and those who turn around in their orbit…..
